Prior to the establishment of Canada’s oldest incorporated city, Saint John, a flourishing Nation existed in the area already, the Wolastoqiyik. Learn about how they lived along the “beautiful river” in balance with nature and how it was integral to their movement around the region and province.

How the evening will play out:

We'll meet at the beach pre-sunset, taking time to get everyone fitted with your gear before your guide goes over safety procedures and basic paddling instructions.

We launch into the lovely South Bay region of the Wolastoq (Saint John River) and follow the shoreline toward Grand Bay under the setting sun. We'll be stopping along the way at a beach for a small bonfire to enjoy traditional Bannock as well as a smoked sturgeon platter.

What is included:

  • PFD
  • Paddle
  • Spray Skirt
  • Tandem kayak**
  • Intro to gear/safety instruction
  • Bannock and smoked sturgeon sampling

**All guests paddle tandem kayaks.

Guides have total authority to cancel or modify a tour if the safety of the group is at risk.

What to wear:

  • Non-Cotton Clothing (Jeans are not safe for water sports)
  • Long sleeve shirt for the bonfire and the paddle back (just in case, but this will become more important for tours later in the summer)
  • Hat and Sunglasses
  • Water Shoes if you have them, otherwise, footwear that you're ok with getting wet

Other useful things to bring:

  • Change of clothes and a towel to leave in the car
  • Water in a reusable bottle
  • Bug spray (just in case)
